Post 7 - Thank You Letter

May 23, 2012

Dear Mrs. Cintula,

Thank you for working with me these last ten weeks. I really enjoyed class K-002 and my first experiences as a teaching assistant. I appreciate that you were so nice to me the last ten weeks. That was so important to me because when I came to a strange place the first few days, I was nervous. That was the first time to be a teacher and have students calling me Ms. Yuni. This was my first time to see how a kindergarten teacher looks and how a kindergarten class functions.

I am thankful to you for teaching me while you were also teaching the students at the same time. I really learned!  I had never heard so many English fairy tales before. Before internship, I didn’t think that I would want to be a teacher.  But I might have changed my mind because of you. I can see that you really enjoy teaching students. I am inspired by you.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to work with you and class K-002. This is a very precious experience.

Sincerely,

Yuni Deng

Post 6 - Photo Essay

This is the classroom I always work in. This is a kindergarten classroom. They are 5 tables called blue, green, yellow, red and orange. Students write and read on the tables. But sometime they will site together on the carpet to listen the teacher Mrs. Cintula read them a story book. Most are fairy tales. I enjoyed to listen the story.
This is the playground. There two different have two side. The picture above is for 1st grade and kindergarten to play. Another picture is for 2nd and 3rd grade. I also work in there everytime when I came to the school. Because it's lunch time. Students had to ate lunch or play in the playground. Post 1, First Impression

The internship was started on March 5th. When I first day came into the Brooklyn School of Inquiry. It’s a very new school and I saw lots of children good work on the wall. This is my first walk in an elementary school. It looks a nice school. I think kids are happy to learning in this school.
My supervisor is the parent coordinator, she’s name is Kelly Baxter Golding. She is a nice and friendly. She is a patient person. She told us what to do when we coming and she bring other interns and me to introduce each of us to the class that we work in.
Ms. Kelly is my supervisors. But also the teacher that I work with is my supervisor too. She is Mrs. Cintula. And she is a nice person too. When I first go in the classroom, I got a 5 seconds introduction. Because Mrs. Cintula was very busy. We don’t talk more after that. And I stand here to watch her teach students. So many posters, student’s pictures, their work... are all on the wall; and I look at it. (One class have two teachers, I know he is helping Mrs. Cintula but not to teach kids. Also he is a nice person.) At the end of last class, Mrs. Cintula introduced me to the students. They said “Welcome” to me.
The first day I was a little bit nervous. Honesty, I feel a little embarrassed to stand in a class room at the first day. Some of the students look at a confused face with no speaking. I know they think “who am I?” (Because the teacher haven not introduced me at the first I came in). They feel weird about me and I feel weird they look at me. But I know they are nice friendly children. This is my first impression at Brooklyn School of Inquiry.

Post 4 - Midpoint Reflection

How has your internship been similar to your expectations? How has it been different than your expectations?
My internship has to talk with many different kids. They are big part of community. To meet and learn about is one thing of my my expectation. The different of my expectation idteaching. Iwill not to be a teacher.

What is similar and/or different about the culture of your internship workplace environment compared to IHSL's school environment?  Provide at least two specific examples.
The smimilar is every body respectful to each other, be nice to each other, listen, learning and teaching. For example, my internship place also a school. Many teacher and students are similar to IHSL's envionment. The difference is grade level, they're not teengers, are kids.

What new skills have you learned that you can apply at other jobs?  For example, have you learned to become a better verbal communicator as a result of interacting with clients each day?  If so, how and where could that skill help you get a job in the future?
I can be a patient and good listener when I work with different kids. I think be a patient and good listener person are improtant and useful in each job.

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers?
I think teacher and student is kind of the relationship with my metor. Because I am new and I have to learn form her. Also can be a helper, to help her in the classroom.

How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?
To know want is the most improtant, and what I need to do first. To take my time and be organize.

What kinds of communication skills have you gained?  Specifically, how has your English improved since beginning internship?
The commucication skills I gained was to listen careful and care about what they said and answer. The students I work with are like to share whit people. I always listen to them and try my best English to communica with them.

What challenges have you had to overcome? Explain the specific steps you've taken to beat those challenges.
The challenges is to listen care to what the kids said. Seriously, they're good English speaker, better than me more and more. Sometiome I don't understand, but I try to ask them what's that mean to understand what they want to say.

How has the altered internship schedule affected you?  How have you reorganized your time to make sure you are getting all your classwork done? If you're not getting your assignments done, what can you do for the remaining five weeks to ensure you earn better grades?
My internship schedule make me feel more tire than before and less time to do class work in the class. So I have to take home to finish it. I may use a little note book to write donw what I have to do every day. And remain me to do the assigments done to earn better grades.

You have FIVE WEEKS of internship left. What are two goals do you hope to accomplish during the remaining weeks? These goals could include knowledge you hope to gain or skills you hope to learn.
My goal is to finish 125 hours in the internship. And also can take my tiome finish work in class or home to get a better grade. I hope my internship can be a good job experience of my life. I hope to learn good communication with kids.

What new things have you learned about New York City as a result of being "out and about"?
The new thing I learned about was what a kindergarten looks like, works like.
